Jessie gets her craft on for Christmas
I love Christmas. Everyone who knows me knows this about me. There is a looooooong line of Christmas-loving in my family, on both my mum's (Irish/French) side and my dad's (Scottish/French) side. And I guess we're a pretty creative bunch, too. My Dad used to play guitar for a band of nuns. My mum is a highly sought after cake decorator...and a bit of a Martha-esque house-decorator when it comes to the holidays. My brother and I both spent hours drawing the animals that we read about in our little golden-spined Funk & Wagnall's. And I spent even more hours writing and illustrating my own little books.
And then there is my dad's mum, Annie. She puts us all to shame. She paints, draws, quilts, sews, and crafts. I think "the poors" are basically just a highly resourceful bunch, but she takes it to new levels. She instilled a deep desire to make Christmas decorations in me and my cousin Angie at a very early age. And one year we repaid her with a completely ridiculous tape of us singing Christmas carols. That's right. My first album dropped when I was like 6. On cassette. Oh, how the hipsters would love it!
Anyhoo, I hosted a HOLY BALLS party on Monday, where a spread of shiny Christmas balls lay before the tree for hanging, and a spread of tasty holiday balls covered the dining room table for eating. As usual, I forgot to take pictures. But I did take pictures of my homemade snow globe that I made specifically for the HOLY BALLS party. A little felt, some short pins, twiggy bits, faux snow, an empty Bonne Mama jam jar, some crazy glue, and VOILA! Homemade snow globe.
It should be noted that I was watching Love Actually and drinking a bottle of wine while I made this, and in true Grammie Martin fashion, I stitched up a felt star to top the tree with while I was at it. I told you. I REALLY like Christmas.
